Di Marzio says Antonio Conte is expected to leave Tottenham in the summer
Speaking to Sky Sports Italia as quoted by TuttoJuve, Gianluca di Marzio has said that Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte is expected to part ways with the club in the summer and look for a new challenge.
A few months ago, this news would have been concerning as Conte had been a breath of fresh air for the club since his appointment last year. However, as it almost always seems to happen with this manager, the relationship has soured in the past few months.
Conte’s arrival at Tottenham was met with much excitement and anticipation. The former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager brought a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the club, something that had been lacking under the previous manager.
Conte was expected to be the solution to Tottenham’s long-term trophy drought and he has received backing like no other Spurs manager of the past has had in the transfer market, bringing in seven players in the summer.
There is absolutely no doubt that Conte has improved Tottenham. He has made them mentally and physically much stronger and to be fair, they sit fifth in the Premier League. However, the Italian manager will know that it should have been much better.
However, it seems that negotiations for a contract extension have hit a stumbling block, and it appears that Conte is set to leave Tottenham in the summer. For Spurs fans who have enjoyed seeing the progression under the Italian, this news will come as a shock.
One thing you can never fault Conte for is giving everything to the team. His passion on the touchline and his no-nonsense approach to management have been refreshing to see. However, the results have been largely inconsistent.
Juventus is being touted as a possibility for Conte should he leave Tottenham. The Italian giants are in a bit of a mess, due to financial sanctions and could find themselves in a tricky position in the summer.
