Tottenham Hotspur ‘keen’ to agree two-year contract extension with Eric Dier

Tottenham Hotspur are ‘keen’ to keep hold of Eric Dier and are looking to agree a two-year contract extension with the England international as soon as possible, according to Football Insider.

The 29-year-old’s existing deal with Spurs is set to expire in the summer of 2024. However, the North London side have opened a discussion with the centre-back to tie him down until 2026.

Antonio Conte likes Dier very much. The Italian manager has been impressed with the defender’s abilities and versatility on the pitch. Therefore, the England international is a key player for the gaffer.

Both Spurs and the 29-year-old are willing to come to terms and make things official quickly. The North London side wish to move on to negotiate with Harry Kane and tie him down as well.

Dier signed for Tottenham in the summer of 2014 from Primeira Liga outfit Sporting CP. The centre-back made his way through the youth ranks with the Portuguese outfit and was impressive.

Subsequently, Spurs came knocking. Over the years, the defender has had a mixed spell in North London. He has played in various positions, including defensive midfielder and right-back.

Towards the end of Mauricio Pochettino’s reign, the England international found himself out of the team. Subsequently, Jose Mourinho turned the 29-year-old into a centre-back on a permanent basis.

Currently, Dier is the leader in our backline. Alongside Cristian Romero and Ben Davies in recent months, the England international has formed a decent trio. However, our defensive performances have still been a bit topsy-turvy.

However, the 29-year-old has proved himself to be a valuable member of the team. While the defender has not been his best in recent months, if Conte wants the centre-back to stay, Tottenham should get the contract signed soon.
