Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher told to leave Liverpool for Tottenham Hotspur move
Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has proposed an interesting transfer move for Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher, urging the goalkeeper to join Tottenham Hotspur.
The French legend said (h/t Irish Mirror):
“Caomihin Kelleher should consider a move away and a club that he would fit in perfectly is Tottenham. Hugo Lloris is 36, he has had a few injuries and has retired from the national team – he is not the future anymore.
“(Fraser) Forster is also 34, so Tottenham may need a refresh in that department. Kelleher is 24 years old. In the cup fixtures last season, especially against Chelsea, he was really good. If he wants to cement his own legacy, he should leave and join Tottenham.”
This is not a bad idea at all. Spurs are supposedly in the market for a Hugo Lloris replacement, who is 36 years old and nearing the end of his playing days.
One for Spurs to consider
David Raya of Brentford and Everton’s Jordan Pickford have both been linked with moves to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as possible successors to the former Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper (h/t Guardian).
Both Raya and Pickford, and majority of the other goalkeepers we may target to be our No. 1, may well be regular starters at their current club. Kelleher, meanwhile, would be eager to get additional playing time, having played just four times this season.
He is clearly No. 2 behind the world-class Alisson Becker who hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. Kelleher is 24 and the time is coming for him to play at a team where he can continue his development and make himself into a world-class stopper.
Spurs fans would perhaps want a more accomplished name between the sticks to replace Lloris, who is a two-time FIFA World Cup finalist as captain. But Kelleher is a player we can take a chance on.
Those who have seen him play for Liverpool would appreciate how stellar he has been in goal, be it in penalty shootouts, open play, or set-pieces. His calmness and composure between the sticks would remind one of a young Lloris.

It, however, remains to be seen if the Anfield outfit will be open to selling one of their brightest young players to strengthen a direct Premier League rival. Kelleher still has 40 months left on his contract with the Reds (Transfermarkt).
