Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham ‘not contemplating’ selling Manchester United target Harry Kane

Tottenham Hotspur are ‘not even contemplating’ selling Manchester United target Harry Kane and instead want to extend his contract, as per the Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro].

The 29-year-old is nearly in the final 15-and-a-half months of his contract at Spurs. The Lilywhites are believed to have opened initial talks over a new deal.

They are also willing to let him enter the final year of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium while talks continue. This would be an obvious blow to Manchester United, who have been linked with a summer move to him.

But that is the least of our worries here. Kane is a Tottenham legend and for many, rightly considered the club’s greatest-ever player. To see him in rival colours would be traumatising.

Spurs doing the right thing?

More than that, he is still in the prime years of his career. The brace he scored in the 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest took him to 20 Premier League goals for the sixth season running.

These are brilliant numbers from the Englishman. We cannot let him go at any cost because, simply said, it is nearly impossible to replace a homegrown talent like that who is posting such numbers.

Spurs, however, must take care if they are letting Kane enter the final year of his deal. This could be a risky strategy if they are unsure about the player’s potential intention to actually pen fresh terms.

If this bet fails, we could lose out on a massive chance to cash in on him and then utilise those funds towards finding a potential replacement. It is a risky strategy but one Spurs fans would advise the club to make.
