Mauricio Pochettino wants Tottenham to retain Manchester United target Harry Kane if he is to return

According to Relevo journalists Hugo Cerezo and Matteo Moretto, Mauricio Pochettino has set a clear demand that he will want Harry Kane to stay at Tottenham Hotspur if he is to succeed Antonio Conte.

Moretto explains in his piece that he was discussing Kane’s situation with his colleague, Cerezo, who told him that Poch will want the England international at Spurs next season if he is to return to the club where he was the manager from 2014 to 2019.

Kane and Pochettino had a very good time together during that stint, of course, on an individual level considering they failed to win any trophies together. It was under the Argentine that Kane became one of the world’s very best players.

Antonio Conte says Tottenham Hotspur have taken a step forward despite Champions League exit.

The 29-year-old is now in the final 16 months of his contract at Spurs (Transfermarkt), with Manchester United taking a keen interest in him. Moretto has also claimed that Kane could be open to a move to Old Trafford.

Kane and Poch reunion?

One good news here is that Kane apparently wants to stay in England, where he stands the chance of becoming the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer. However, this doesn’t rule out Kane from moving to Manchester United.

Hence, a summer reunion could then be on the cards if Conte doesn’t renew his Spurs deal and leaves as a free agent. Poch is a good candidate for the role considering he won a Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and is now a more experienced manager with a taste of silverware because of it.

This could also be a great way for Spurs to ensure Kane stays. They can use Poch to pull at Kane’s heartstrings and get him to believe in the Argentine’s potential Spurs project, should he replace Conte.

Bringing Poch back to Spurs, who is currently a free agent, can mean accepting we were wrong to sack him in 2019. Some fans already believed that back then and their belief may have turned more firm after failed spells under Jose Mourinho and Conte (so far).
