Manchester United told they can sign Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane but on one condition

Manchester United have been informed by Tottenham Hotspur that it will take a one-time payment of 100million Pounds if they wish to sign Harry Kane, as per the Times (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro].

The 29-year-old is in the final 16 months of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for him. They are in the market for a striker after Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani’s exits last year.

Kane has been earmarked as a target. And why wouldn’t he be… there are hardly better strikes in world football than the England international right now.

Apparently, Spurs have set that price tag in the hopes that it deters Manchester United from making an offer. However, the transfer market is a crazy place, as we have seen in recent seasons.

Spurs must retain Kane

If Manchester United get new owners, or even if the current ones take a huge liking to Kane, then it can’t be said for sure that they won’t meet the asking price for him. Of course, it would be a massive, massive payout on their payout.

It will be made even more audacious by the fact that Kane is set to enter his 30s and his contract expires next year. It’s a smart tactic from the Lilywhites to place a virtually unaffordable price tag on Kane.

But it can backfire if any team meets the asking price. Losing Kane will have an added sentimental blow apart from the obvious consequences it will have for us on the pitch.

One silver lining from this situation could then be the influx of huge cash which we can then use to strengthen the squad and sign a potential Kane replacement. Let’s hope we have learnt a lesson after arguably wasting away the money on largely poor signings after Gareth Bale’s high-profile departure to Real Madrid.
