Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United lead the race for Hakim Calhanoglu

According to Italian outlet Il Romanista, Tottenham and Leeds United are in pole position to sign Inter Milan midfielder Hakim Calhanoglu from Inter Milan in the summer.

The Turkish midfielder has been a standout player for Inter Milan, having joined the club in 2021 after a successful stint at their rivals, AC Milan. His impressive performances in Serie A have attracted interest from several clubs, but it appears that Tottenham and Leeds are the front runners.

Calhanoglu’s contract with Inter is set to expire in 2024 (Transfermarkt), and with the club looking to trim their wage bill, the 29-year-old is likely to be sold in the coming months, making him a realistic target for clubs.

For Tottenham, Calhanoglu would be an excellent addition to their midfield. He has a keen eye for goal. His experience in the Champions League would also be invaluable for a Spurs side looking to remain in Europe’s elite competition.

Leeds, on the other hand, might struggle to lure Calhanoglu to Elland Road. The Yorkshire club’s chances of signing the midfielder would likely depend on whether they can retain their Premier League status.

Ultimately, though, it seems that Tottenham would be the more attractive option for Calhanoglu. The North London club has a rich history and a squad that is capable of challenging for major honours.

If Calhanoglu were to join Tottenham, he would be adding a creative presence to midfield, something that the club are really lacking. The player can also play deeper in midfield when required.

The prospect of playing alongside the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min could also be a major factor for Calhanoglu. The Turkish midfielder is known for his creativity and vision, and he would relish the opportunity to link up with two of the Premier League’s most lethal finishers.
