Tottenham Hotspur urged to replace Antonio Conte with Vincent Kompany

According to Tony Cascarino for The Times (h/t Evening Standard), Tottenham Hotspur should make a move for Vincent Kompany to replace Antonio Conte.

The Italian’s future at N-17 is in major doubt given his recent rant against the club’s players and hierarchy. It is difficult to see Conte salvage the situation and a parting of ways appears to be on the cards.

Hiring a new manager midway through the season, especially with us in the fight for a top-four finish isn’t without its risks. The club could either rally behind the new boss or fall apart. Given how we have reacted to adversity so far, the latter appears to be more likely.

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is the latest manager to be linked with the Spurs job. The Belgian had an illustrious career as a player and is now earning accolades for his job on the sidelines at Turf Moor.

Kompany’s side are top of the EFL Championship and look set to return to the top flight. It is fair to say that Burnley will not be keen to lose their man at least in the middle of a campaign.

Cascarino believes the Belgian will offer Tottenham something new and will be a breakaway from the profile of managers they have opted to sign in the past. Clearly, Cascarino believes Tottenham could do with an infusion of fresh ideas.

“I think Vincent Kompany would be an excellent appointment after his miraculous feats at Burnley this season. He’s had little money but transformed them, adopting a new playing style.”

Kompany has certainly done well at Burnley and also got them playing good football. It represents a far cry from the physical style they have become synonymous with in recent years.

However, he still has much to prove and managing a top-four side in the Premier League is a whole new ball game. Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard enjoyed success at Rangers and Derby County respectively but fell well short when offered an opportunity in the Premier League.

Kompany could very well buck the trend but what Tottenham need is stability. A decision will not be easy to make but the future of the club could come down to what Daniel Levy decides to do in the coming days.
