Emiliano Martinez hints at Aston Villa stay amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
Speaking in an interview as quoted by The Mirror, Argentinian goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez hints at wanting to stay at Aston Villa amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper and Martinez is one of the best names on their shortlist. The Aston Villa keeper is very highly rated and rightfully so, following his exploits in recent seasons.
Emi Martinez was one of the main reasons Argentina won the World Cup. Some of his saves were simply magnificent and rightfully he was awarded with the Golden glove upon the conclusion of the tournament.
Martinez has been a standout performer for Aston Villa ever since his move from Arsenal. It’s a rather incredible story of how well he is performing despite blooming very late and it is no surprise that Tottenham are interested in him.
However, Emi Martinez has hinted that he would love to stay at Aston Villa despite interest from elsewhere.
“My career went through the roof since I joined the club. I’ve always said I’m grateful to this club and I love being here. My family is happy at the club, my boy is obsessed with playing football and he plays for the under-6s in the academy. We’re loving our time here and hopefully, there are many years to come.”
Keep trying
Despite Martinez’s open claim about staying at Aston Villa, Tottenham must not give up. They must continue trying to persuade the Argentinian number one to come to N17 and be the replacement for Hugo Lloris.
As good as the Frenchman has been over the years for the club, it looks like his time at the top is slowly yet surely coming to an end. We must find the right person to replace him and lead us into the future.
Martinez seems like the perfect candidate to do just that. However, even if he does not choose to come here, we have other options that we can explore. It’s not the end of the world if we do not sign the Argentinian.
