Journo rubbishes Manchester United star Dean Henderson to Tottenham Hotspur links

Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has rubbished links between Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson and Tottenham Hotspur.

ESPN recently claimed that Spurs have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old goalkeeper, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest. He left last summer on a temporary season-long deal for more playing time.

And he has been getting it there. Henderson was selected for England’s 23-man squad for the Euro 2024 qualifiers in March and he would want to keep making the cut for the Three Lions.

He can’t do that if he doesn’t play regularly at club level. David de Gea is currently Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper, which is why Henderson has struggled for playing time there ever since he returned from his loan spell at Sheffield United.

No deal?

Spurs, meanwhile, would be on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris. The 36-year-old is at the dusk of his playing days and we can use a new goalkeeper.

On paper, these links made real sense. But Bridge came out recently on his social media account to rubbish these links. He tweeted:

“In the last hour, we reported Antonio Conte is currently in Italy. Cristian Stellini took training. Also understand Dean Henderson is not a #THFC transfer target this summer.”

Spurs would still be wise to look at Henderson. If not him, a player in his age bracket who is not getting regular playing time for his club would certainly be something we can realistically explore.

It would automatically improve our chances on paper to sign them considering we could be able to offer them the No. 1 spot between the sticks almost instantaneously. Plenty of other fish in the sea.
