Tottenham Hotspur identify Brighton’s Evan Ferguson as Harry Kane replacement

Tottenham Hotspur have apparently identified Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson as a potential replacement for Harry Kane, as per TalkSPORT (h/t Express).

The England international is set to enter the last 15 months of his contract at Spurs and has naturally been linked with a move away from the club, including to Manchester United. Spurs seem to be planning for the future.

They are apparently after Ferguson in the event Kane leaves. Even if he doesn’t, there will come a time when we will have to think of life without the club’s record goal-scorer.

But right now, this would seem preposterous to the fans. No disrespect to Ferguson – the Irish youngster has been very good for Brighton this season and has earned his spot in his country’s senior squad.

Pass.

He even played against France in the 1-0 Euro 2024 qualifier defeat for his team on 27 March, showing just how far he has come after playing for the Seagulls’ youth team last season. The 1.83-meter tall centre-forward looks like a balanced player with finishing, dribbling, and physical ability that can be honed even further as the years pass.

But if Kane leaves the club this summer and Ferguson leads our line next season, fans will undoubtedly be wondering what is going on at the club. First, we have to sort out our manager situation and find a long-term replacement for Antonio Conte.

Only then can we have any hope of tying Kane down to a new deal. Once that is done, we have to assess where we stand with the 29-year-old and if he wants to play here and sign a new deal.

If not, we have to target a proven goal-scorer – someone young who has plenty of experience at the top level. Kane was himself once young and had his doubters, but we are at a point in the club’s history where we can’t risk replacing Kane with Ferguson – at least right now.

He can, of course, be used to add competition and depth up front but as a leading No. 9 every week? Not yet. That is, if Brighton are open to selling their prized asset in the first place. His deal runs until 2026 (Transfermarkt).
