Tottenham Hotspur are apparently facing a race against time to keep hold of 19-year-old academy starlet Romaine Mundle, as per Football.London.

The teenager has been recently promoted to the senior team but is yet to make an appearance for them. The right-winger, as witnessed by his performances for our U18 and U21 teams recently, is creative and technical.

He has been training with the first team since March and a first-team debut could be in line for him. Mundle’s contract expires at the end of the season and Spurs could lose him to a free transfer.

Perhaps promoting him to the first team can convince him that he can have an immediate future at the club. It could also be a tactical gesture done at a time when Tottenham could want him to renew his deal.

New deal, ASAP!

Apparently, he has been linked with Premier League clubs recently. That could drive up his valuation but will also offer him a potentially better chance at playing for the first team.

He was on the bench for our 3-1 league win against Nottingham Forest on 11 March. Mundle was also in the matchday squad for our first-leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers against Pacos Ferreira in August and in the 1-0 FA Cup third-round win over Portsmouth in January.

He wasn’t used in any of these games. Perhaps manager Antonio Conte was saving his debut for a special occasion but as it turned out, the Italian tactician left in March.

Spurs are supposedly in talks with the London-born teenager over a new deal, who has been with the club since the summer of 2019. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t keep hold of our best academy talent, and Mundle certainly qualifies in that category.
