Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Udinese star Gerard Deulofeau
According to MondoUdinese, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing talented Udinese forward Gerard Deulofeau in the summer.
The Spanish forward was almost signed by the North London club in the winter transfer window, but the deal fell through at the last minute. However, it seems that Spurs are keen to revive their pursuit of the player.
Deulofeu joined Udinese on loan from Watford in October 2020, with the deal being made permanent following his impressive displays for the Serie A club. Despite suffering from a few injury setbacks, the 29-year-old has established himself as a key player for Udinese.
The ongoing season has been a bit stop-start for Deulofeu, with injuries restricting him to just 18 appearances. However, he has still managed to rack up 10 goal contributions and is expected to return to full fitness before the end of the campaign.
With just over a year left on his contract (Transfermarkt), Udinese might be tempted to cash in on Deulofeu in the summer transfer window. Tottenham, who are currently searching for a new manager, are said to be monitoring the situation closely and are expected to make a move for the player if he becomes available.
Deulofeu’s versatility is one of the reasons why he has caught the eye of the Spurs hierarchy. The former Barcelona youth player can operate on either flank and is equally adept at playing as a central striker.
Furthermore, Deulofeu’s experience of playing in the Premier League could be a huge asset for Tottenham. Having spent several seasons in England with Watford and Everton, the Spanish international is familiar with the demands of the league and would not require a lengthy settling-in period.
The only potential stumbling block in any deal for Deulofeu could be his fitness. While the player is expected to return to full fitness before the end of the season, his injury record is a cause for concern.
