Brentford set £40 million price tag for David Raya amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
Premier League rivals Brentford have set a £40 million price tag on shot-stopper David Raya, who Tottenham Hotspur are interested in, according to the Metro.
The 27-year-old’s current contract with the Bees is set to expire in the summer of 2024. However, the goalkeeper has no intentions of extending his stay at the West London club.
Thomas Frank’s team have offered the Spain international two new offers, which have been rejected. Instead, he is keen on making a move to a ‘top club’ in the coming months.
The West London club do not want to lose Raya for free at the end of next season. As a result, they will look to cash in on the shot-stopper in the upcoming transfer window. Apart from the North London side, Manchester United also have the 27-year-old on their radar.
For now, Spurs have Hugo Lloris as the first choice in between the sticks. The 26-year-old signed for the Lilywhites in the summer of 2012 and has been the number one ever since.
Unfortunately, over the last few campaigns, age seems to have caught up with the French national. Since the 2018 World Cup win, the veteran goalkeeper has been inconsistent at Tottenham.
Raya has established himself as one of the best shot-stoppers in the English top flight since last season. The Spaniard has been a key player in the West London club’s survival in the PL.
In the current campaign, the 27-year-old has made 30 appearances in the league, keeping nine clean sheets. The goalkeeper has also been a regular member of his national side over the last few months.

Apart from Lloris, Spurs have Fraser Forster at their disposal. However, the English national is nearing the culmination of his career as well. Therefore, the North London side evidently need to find a new number one. But will we spend a considerable sum on a player whose contract is set to expire soon? Only time will tell.
