Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur want Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim
According to the Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur want Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim with Chelsea also said to be interested in the talented manager.
The 38-year-old has emerged as one of the most promising young coaches in Europe, having guided Sporting to the Portuguese title last season and the knockout stages of the Europa League this season.
Tottenham fans will remember Amorim’s Sporting side from the Champions League group stage, where they beat Spurs on home soil. While Chelsea have reportedly held talks with Amorim, there is no indication that he is their favoured choice for the role.
Tottenham are now on the hunt for their third permanent manager in just over two years. The new appointment will be important as he will be the man to lead the club forward in the right direction.
Tottenham fans will no doubt be hoping that their club can win the race for Nagelsmann’s signature, but they will face stiff competition from Chelsea. The German did a great job at RB Leipzig.
Nagelsmann was unfairly let go of his role by Bayern Munich. The German giants have gone south since replacing him with Thomas Tuchel with the club on the verge of being knocked out of the Champions League.
Of course, both Chelsea and Tottenham will need to convince their preferred candidates that they are the right club for them. For Amorim, who has a large buyout clause in his contract, a move to the Premier League would represent a huge step up in his career.
Amorim has made all the right noises during his time in Portugal. Pedro Porro is a player who really would love this appointment. With time, we will get to know if the manager indeed comes to N17.
