Ruben Amorim says Tottenham will have to pay £80mil for Pedro Goncalves
Speaking to Tuttosport, Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur will have to pay £80 million to acquire the talented Pedro Goncalves.
Tottenham has been scouting the Sporting Lisbon player for some time now, with the hope of bolstering their squad ahead of the new season. Goncalves has been scouted by the club in the past well.
Pote, as he is fondly called, has been in impressive form for Sporting Lisbon this season, scoring 19 goals and providing 12 assists in all competitions. Tottenham’s interest in the player has been growing for some time now.
The comparisons to former Sporting Lisbon player Bruno Fernandes are not unfounded, with the talented Goncalves being hailed as the second coming of the Manchester United midfielder in Lisbon.
Spurs, however, famously missed out on Fernandes before his move to Old Trafford two and a half years ago. They will be hoping that they learn from their mistake and don’t do the same thing with Goncalves.
Here is what Ruben Amorim had to say about Goncalves and what it would take to buy him from Sporting CP
“Pedro Goncalves can only join Tottenham if they trigger the £80 million release clause in his Sporting Lisbon contract. If they give £80 million, he’ll go there. If they don’t pay, he’ll continue at Sporting. These are players who are comfortable here.”
The 38-year-old coach is determined to keep his key players at the Estadio da Luz and is willing to fight to keep Goncalves. Aston Villa have also been linked with the talented midfielder.
It is unclear whether Spurs will meet Sporting’s asking price for Goncalves, but one thing is for sure – the player is in high demand, and Sporting CP will be looking to cash in on him while his stock is still high.

Only time will tell how the particular situation develops. If we manage to sign Goncalves, it’ll be a great addition. We have to get him at the right price though.
