Fabrizio Romano reveals release clause in the contract of Tottenham target Roberto De Zerbi

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Tottenham target Roberto de Zerbi has a release clause on his contract which can be triggered in the summer.

The Italian manager has been making waves at Brighton & Hove Albion, and it seems that he has caught the attention of Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy. De Zerbi has taken the Premier League by storm.

The possibility of De Zerbi joining Spurs has been given further weight by the revelation that there is a release clause in his contract. It is a similar clause like the one Graham Potter had in his Brighton contract.

Brighton could have gone into a freefall when Graham Potter left them for Chelsea at the beginning of the season. Instead, the Seagulls have gone from strength to strength under De Zerbi whilst the Blues have been going down with Potter already sacked.

It shows that with the correct managerial appointment can take a club to different levels and that is exactly what Tottenham need right now. They need to make the perfect appointment to take the club forward.

Here is what Fabrizio Romano had to say about De Zerbi and what it would take to buy him from Brighton

“Credits to Roberto De Zerbi, but he is not in the list of Chelsea to be the new coach,” said Romano. Let me clarify this, in De Zerbi’s contract there is a clause. You can call it a release clause, you can call it a release clause or a fixed amount”

“But if you go there and you pay €13m (£11m) in the summer you can have De Zerbi. That’s in case you agree with him because he is very happy at Brighton and he is doing very well.”

The fact that De Zerbi is happy at Brighton could prove to be a thorn in plans for Tottenham. He might not want to desert an impressive project at the Amex in favour of building something from scratch at Spurs.

What sets De Zerbi apart from other managers is his tactical acumen. He implements a very unique playstyle and his team play a brand of football that really stands out – this is something that Tottenham really need.

Only time will tell if the Italian indeed emerges as an option for the club. If he does, he’d be a great acquisition. Let’s see how this one pans out.
