Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes could miss Tottenham Hotspur clash with ankle injury
In what will come as a boost for Tottenham Hotspur, Bruno Fernandes could miss Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Spurs on April 27 with a suspected ankle injury.
He apparently suffered the problem in the Red Devils’ FA Cup semifinal clash against Brighton & Hove Albion and there were talks within the United team about potentially subbing him off at halftime. He continued despite the problem.
Fernandes played 101 minutes before he was taken off. The Portuguese international went on to coach his teammates from the touchline as they managed a 7-6 win on penalty shootouts against the Seagulls.
It seems that he could have done damage to his ankle during the game against Brighton which could rule him out for the game against Tottenham. He was seen limping out of Old Trafford but as per ESPN, wasn’t seen wearing a protective boot.
Big boost
Fernandes hasn’t been at his best for Manchester United but he has still managed 10 goals and 13 assists in 49 games this season. The 28-year-old is his team’s de facto captain after Harry Maguire not seeing regular playing time under Erik ten Hag.
His absence could be a huge, huge miss for the Red Devils, who seem to rely on him to create chances for his teammates from the No. 10 position. They still have an able playmaker in former Spurs superstar Christian Eriksen but Fernandes would have obviously started had he been 100% fit.
We can’t take United lightly regardless as they have players that can cause us damage. This will be a hugely important game for us as it can totally end our top-four hopes if we don’t win.
