Levy reveals conversations with player committee after Cristian Stellini sack

As quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Daniel Levy has revealed that he held conversations with the ‘player committee’ after sacking Cristian Stellini from his role as the caretaker manager.

The Italian’s reign came to a halt after a disastrous 6-1 loss to Newcastle United. The embarrassing defeat left Spurs five goals behind after just 20 minutes and put a massive dent in the team’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

Currently sitting in fifth place in the Premier League, Spurs have a mountain to climb to make it into the top four. With Manchester United holding onto fourth place with 59 points and two games in hand, the task ahead of the north London side is daunting.

Ryan Mason has taken over the reins as head coach with immediate effect and will be tasked with the difficult job of turning things around. While the odds are stacked against him, the ‘Player Committee’ at Tottenham appears to be backing the young coach.

Here is what Levy had to say about talking with the player committee and how that particular conversation went

“I met with the Player Committee today – the squad is determined to pull together to ensure the strongest possible finish to the season. We are all clear we need to deliver performances which earn your amazing support.”

It’s clear that the ‘Player Committee’ holds significant sway at Tottenham, and their confidence in Mason will be crucial in the coming weeks. Which players belong to this aforementioned committee is anyone’s guess though.

Mason’s appointment is a bold move by the club, but it’s one that could pay off if he can motivate the players and get them firing on all cylinders. They need to hope for a miracle to qualify for the Champions League from here.

Tottenham are trying to make the conditions as perfect as they can to ensure that the team have a blockbuster run-in. However, the grassroots problems still exist and it is coming back to plague them.
