Ryan Mason asks Tottenham Hotspur fans to ‘stick’ with the team after refunding tickets for Newcastle United loss

Ryan Mason has given his two cents on Tottenham Hotspur fans being refunded for the Premier League loss against Newcastle United this weekend.

The Lilywhites were slapped with a 6-1 scoreline at St. James Park to record their biggest defeat in the Premier League since, well a 7-1 loss at St. James Park in December 1996.

After the game, Spurs released a statement saying that all of their travelling fans would be refunded with regards to their matchday tickets. We were 5-0 down at 21 minutes and some of the fans left before halftime.

Mason was asked at his pre-match press conference before the league game against Manchester United later today (April 27) what he feels about the move. To no one’s surprise, he was happy that the club took this step, via BBC.

“I’m pleased. Our fans are important to us. We value them. The relationship has wavered in recent times but we need them and hopefully they can stick with us.”

Spurs fans have had a love-hate relationship with the club for the past two decades. Of course, the bond between the team and the supporters isn’t based on trophies alone.

But there have been times where the club have let the fans down and honestly, the vice versa has also been the case. Many times the stadium or the away end with Spurs fans isn’t doing what it should in games where the players need us.

On the contrary, the players are not, in such instances, giving fans a reason to cheer. It’s a vicious cycle. It was a nice touch from the Lilywhites to refund the fans for their away tickets for the Magpies clash.

But more than that, fans will want to see a reaction on the pitch against Manchester United and a top-four finish at the end of the season.
