Tottenham investigating racial abuse against Son Heung-Min during Crystal Palace clash
According to the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have launched an investigation into an allegation of racial abuse directed at their star forward, Heung-Min Son, during the team’s recent clash against Crystal Palace.
The club has released a statement condemning any form of discrimination, stating that it has no place in society, the game of football, or the club. The statement also affirmed the club’s commitment to working with the Metropolitan Police and Crystal Palace to identify the individual responsible and ensure that they face the strongest possible action if found guilty.
Sadly, this is not the first time Son has been subjected to such abuse. He has been targeted multiple times since signing for Tottenham in 2015, with the most recent incident occurring in February when the club issued a statement denouncing “utterly reprehensible” racist abuse directed at the player.
The fact that Son has been targeted multiple times in this manner is simply unacceptable. Racial abuse has no place in football, or indeed any aspect of life, and it is a sad reflection on society that such incidents continue to occur.
Tottenham has taken a strong stance against racism, both on and off the pitch. Earlier this season, the club issued a statement following an incident in which Son was subjected to racial abuse during a match against Chelsea.
The fact that incidents such as the one involving Son continue to occur highlights the need for all those responsible in the football community to work together to stamp out racism and discrimination.
No player deserves to be racially abused. A player like Son who is genuinely one of the nicest footballers going around should not go through something like this. The club must take serious action.
