Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Caoimhin Kelleher asks to leave Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur target Caoimhin Kelleher has asked to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window, as per The Transfer Room (h/t the Express).

The 24-year-old isn’t seeing a lot of playing time at Liverpool. He has always been Alisson Becker’s back-up and that is unlikely to change.

The Brazilian is one of the world’s best goalkeepers and is still just 30 years old. Goalkeepers have a long shelf life. Hugo Lloris, nevertheless, seems to be at the end of his playing days.

The 36-year-old has become error-prone in recent years and has been troubled by injuries this season. It is time we replace him and he has already recognized his best days are past him, considering he announced his retirement from France after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

What should Spurs do?

But is Kelleher the player we want to replace him? Perhaps we can use him as a backup to whichever goalkeeper we sign. Fraser Forster, 35, isn’t young either.

That, however, raises the question of why would the Irish goalkeeper want to swap the bench at Liverpool for the bench at Spurs. Hence, if he moves here, it could be as Lloris’ successor.

Liverpool have also placed a £30million price tag on him. That is certainly steep for a player who isn’t a first-team regular.

We can probably get more experienced, more accomplished goalkeepers for that price. But that isn’t to discredit the Corkman. The 1.88m tall goalkeeper is sure in possession.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

He hasn’t seemed to make many errors whenever he has played for Liverpool, and his display in the EFL Cup final against Chelsea last year showed he could be ready for the big time. We can certainly do worse than him but we can also do better than him. It’s up to Daniel Levy and co.
