Marcel Desailly urges Harry Kane to leave Tottenham Hotspur
Speaking to beIN Sports, former Chelsea player Marcel Desailly has urged Harry Kane to leave Tottenham Hotspur and move in search of new pastures.
The English international has been at the forefront of discussions about his future at the club. The 29-year-old forward has been linked with a move away from the North London outfit at the end of the season, with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2024.
Many have speculated that Harry Kane is ready to leave Tottenham in search of a club that can offer him the chance to compete for major trophies, something that has so far eluded him during his time with the club.
Desailly believes that Kane should look at the example of Robert Lewandowski, who moved from Bayern Munich to experience something different and win trophies. The former Premier League defender argues that Kane needs to move on from Tottenham in order to achieve his full potential.
While Desailly’s comments may seem harsh, they do have some validity. Tottenham have struggled to win trophies in recent years, with their last major silverware coming in the form of the League Cup in 2008.
Speaking about the situation, here is what Marcel Desailly had to say about what Kane must do to save his career
“When I was playing, Tottenham were in the same situation. No leadership, nothing. How many trophies they’ve won since 98 until now, it’s something that will be repeated”
“Like we’ve said, he might get a good contract or they might renew, but the idea like [Robert] Lewandowski. He moved from a different type of club like Bayern Munich but he wanted to face something different, achieve something different – trophy, language, culture”
Of course, the decision ultimately rests with Kane himself. The England international has been one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League over the last few years, and he deserves to play for a club that can match his ambitions.
If Tottenham can convince him that they are capable of doing so, then there’s every chance that he could extend his stay at the club. The new manager taking over from Tottenham has a huge role in convincing him.
