Tottenham Hotspur ‘reluctant’ to pay £40 million to Brentford for David Raya
Tottenham Hotspur are ‘reluctant’ to pay £40 million to Premier League rivals Brentford to acquire the services of David Raya, according to Sky Sports.
Spurs, along with Manchester United, are interested in getting a hold of the shot-stopper’s signature in the upcoming transfer window. However, the price tag is a sticking point for both teams.
The North London side and the Red Devils do not believe that the Spain international is worth that much. As a result, the two sides have not gotten in touch with the Bees so far.
While the 27-year-old has been impressive at the West London-based club, his current contract will expire at the end of the upcoming campaign. But the Gtech Community Stadium side are open to keeping the goalkeeper and letting him turn down his deal.
Raya has been at Brentford since 2019. Over the last few years, the Spaniard has been inspirational for the Bees as they have managed to attain promotion to the English top flight and have survived.
Thomas Frank has done a fantastic job in the West London-based club’s dugout. The 27-year-old shot-stopper has been a pivotal pillar to the Danish gaffer’s success in the PL.
At Tottenham, Hugo Lloris has been the number one for several years now. However, over the last few campaigns, the French national’s age seems to have caught up to him.
The 36-year-old has not been at his best for some time now at the North London side. Backing up the former Olympique Lyon star at Spurs is Fraser Forster at the moment. However, the English national is seemingly not good enough to pay week in, week out for us, either.

Therefore, a new goalkeeper should evidently be a priority for Tottenham going into next season. But will Spurs be able to come to terms with Brentford in the coming weeks? Only time will tell. He is a player who hasn’t hidden his desire to leave and has turned down multiple contract offers.
If Spurs can get him on their side, they can hope to bring down the Bees’ price tag.
