Tottenham Hotspur confirm length of James Maddison contract as official announcement made

James Maddison is a Tottenham Hotspur player. Finally! The club have confirmed it with an official announcement on their website.

The England international joins Spurs on a five-year contract, which ensures that he will spend the best years of his career in N17. According to Fabrizio Romano, the fee was around £40million.

Newcastle United were also interested in Maddison, but Spurs won the race in the end. That is despite the Magpies offering UEFA Champions League football which he won’t get next season at Tottenham next season.

This is a brilliant, brilliant signing. Maddison looks like a player who is happy to put on the white shirt and will represent us with pride and vigour.

Spurs get their man

A homegrown player who is still just 26 years old, Maddison is at the peak of his powers and has enough time to get even better. He was a star at Leicester City under Brendan Rodgers.

He can provide goals and assists from midfield — something we have desperately lacked from our current crop of midfielders. Prime Dele Alli was the last time we had a prolific No. 10.

For Maddison, this is a huge step up. There was no way he was going to play in the Championship next season.

His reputation and ambitions wouldn’t allow that. Maddison is still nowhere near being a regular in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

He will be hoping playing for a ‘big six’ Premier League club will give him that extra exposure to make England’s squad for the 2024 UEFA Euros next year. Before that, he will hope to have a stellar debut season under Ange Postecoglou and help Spurs end their 15-year wait for a trophy.
