Daniel Levy has offered out-of-favour Tottenham star Giovani Lo Celso to Barcelona
According to the Spanish publication Mucho Deporte, Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham Hotspur, has made an audacious move by offering out-of-favour midfielder Giovani Lo Celso to Spanish giants Barcelona.
Lo Celso, who has spent the last 18 months on loan at Villarreal, has apparently made it clear that he no longer desires to continue his journey with Spurs. It seems that the midfielder’s time in North London has been plagued by inconsistency and a lack of regular playing opportunities, leading him to seek new challenges elsewhere.
Barcelona’s new manager, the legendary Xavi Hernandez, has shown admiration for Lo Celso’s skills on the pitch. In his quest to strengthen the team’s midfield, Xavi is keen on recruiting players renowned for their exceptional passing abilities, and Giovani Lo Celso perfectly fits the bill.
The Catalans are also on the lookout for a potential replacement for the departing veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets, further adding to the allure of Lo Celso’s signature. While the Argentinian might not play the same position, his passing range resembles the Barcelona legend.
However, Tottenham’s chairman, Daniel Levy, has not wasted any time in initiating negotiations with Barcelona. Levy, known for his tough negotiating tactics, is eager to offload Lo Celso as part of the ongoing squad overhaul at Spurs.
This summer has already witnessed the arrival of new signings such as James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, and Dejan Kulusevski, as Tottenham aims to strengthen its ranks. In addition, the club has been linked with moves for Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba.
While the prospect of Lo Celso donning the famous Barcelona colours is undoubtedly intriguing, the feasibility of the transfer remains uncertain due to the financial challenges currently facing the Catalan club.
It is worth noting that Lo Celso’s tenure at Tottenham has been far from smooth sailing. The talented midfielder has struggled to secure a regular spot in the squad, resulting in several loan spells, including his most recent stint at Villarreal.
