Shakhtar Donetsk hoping to reach solution with Tottenham Hotspur for Manor Solomon transfer
Sergei Palkin, the CEO of Shakhtar Donetsk, is hoping to find a solution with Tottenham Hotspur, who are set to sign Manor Solomon in the ongoing transfer window.
The 23-year-old is on course to become a new Spurs player on a five-year deal. As things stand, the Israel international will technically join the North London side for free.
Solomon currently has a contract with Shakhtar. However, in May, FIFA ruled that players in war-stricken Ukraine and Russia would be able to suspend their contracts once again for a further year.
However, speaking to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Palkin hopes to reach some sort of compromise with Tottenham for the forward. To that end, the Donetsk-based club’s chief will meet with Spurs’ hierarchy during the friendly match on 6 August between the two teams.
“We are sure Tottenham executives understand that Shakhtar invested significant money in the Solomon transfer, investment that Ukrainian club’s in our difficult position, simply cannot afford to lose.
“We hope we will have a meeting with Tottenham representatives on the eve of our friendly match and in good faith we will find a solution to the Manor Solomon issue. The solution should satisfy both sides.”
It is understandable that Shakhtar are aggrieved by the situation. No team will want to lose their assets, especially someone as talented as the Israeli forward, on a free transfer.
Solomon spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Fulham. While the forward picked up an injury initially, he was able to catch a lot of people’s attention after coming back to action.
Tottenham’s forward line already has an abundance of talent at the moment. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have developed into world-class players. Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski are also quality players for Ange Postecoglou to have at his disposal.
Solomon’s potential arrival will evidently add more quality in depth to our ranks. Hopefully, the 23-year-old will be able to develop further at the North London side.

However, it remains to be seen how the talks with Shakhtar will go. Previously, Palkin had threatened to take Spurs to court regarding the Israeli’s transfer. Will that be the case in the coming future? Only time will tell.
