Napoli are considering a move for Giovani Lo Celso
Napoli are eyeing up a potential move for Tottenham Hotspur’s talented midfielder, Giovani Lo Celso, according to Calcio Mercato.
The Serie A outfit are actively seeking reinforcements in the heart of their midfield, and Lo Celso has emerged as a key target. The Tottenham star is expected to leave the club this summer.
First, they suffered the departure of Tanguy Ndombele – who went back to Tottenham. And now, they face the looming possibility of Piotr Zielinski’s exit, with interest from both Lazio and even Saudi Arabian clubs.
Consequently, the Italian side finds itself closely monitoring a handful of midfielders, with Lo Celso standing out as a prominent candidate. Rudi Garcia, the manager at Napoli, is said to be particularly keen on the Argentine’s skill set, which would suit his tactical preferences perfectly.
Giovani lo Celso boasts the versatility to operate as one of three midfielders in a dynamic 4-3-3 formation or even slot in behind the striker in a classic 4-2-3-1 setup. Napoli’s long-standing interest in the player has not gone unnoticed.
The proposed deal could follow a similar pattern to Napoli’s acquisition of Ndombele, with a potential initial loan move, followed by an option to buy. This arrangement has proved successful for the reigning Serie A champions.
However, there are a couple of hurdles that Napoli must overcome in their pursuit of the Tottenham midfielder. Firstly, Spurs are reluctant to part ways with Lo Celso on a temporary basis, preferring a permanent transfer instead.
While Lo Celso has shown flashes of brilliance during his time at Tottenham, the club hierarchy must carefully weigh the potential benefits of retaining his services against the financial implications.
