Di Marzio reveals discrepancy in deal structure for Giovani Lo Celso to Napoli
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has shed light on an intriguing development involving Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso and Serie A club Napoli.
According to Di Marzio, negotiations between the two clubs are in their early stages, but a discrepancy in their preferred deal structure has emerged as a stumbling block that they need to overcome.
Napoli, it seems, have expressed a strong interest in acquiring the services of Giovani Lo Celso. However, their desire to sign him on loan with an option to buy clashes with Tottenham’s preference for a permanent transfer or a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
This difference in terms has created a considerable ‘distance’ between the two clubs during the initial stages of negotiations. The situation is reminiscent of Napoli’s previous dealings with Spurs, having secured the loan signing of midfielder Tanguy Ndombele last season.
Ultimately, Napoli decided against exercising that option, leaving Ndombele to return to Tottenham. For Lo Celso, securing a regular place in the Tottenham squad has been an ongoing challenge in recent years.
The Argentine midfielder has spent a significant amount of time on loan at Villarreal, which highlights his eagerness for more consistent playing time. Tottenham finds themselves in the midst of an ambitious summer rebuild.
Intriguingly, Barcelona have also emerged as a potential suitor for Lo Celso. They have already signed Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City on a free transfer but it seems Sergio Busquets’ exit has left them in need of another midfielder.
Lo Celso himself has expressed a desire for a fresh start and regular playing time, fueling speculation about his future. In fact, renowned journalist Matt Law previously reported that the player has set his sights on leaving Tottenham this summer.
