Ange Postecoglou confirms that Hugo Lloris wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou, the recently appointed manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has confirmed that their long-serving goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is seeking a new challenge away from the club.

Lloris, who is now 36 years old, endured a lacklustre season that left many questioning his form and future at the London club. It is widely expected that he leaves the club this summer in search of pastures new.

Postecoglou, keen to address the situation, revealed that he had a heartfelt conversation with Hugo Lloris regarding his future. Recognizing the goalkeeper’s immense contributions to Tottenham over the years, the manager praised Lloris for his outstanding service.

Postecoglou emphasised that Lloris expressed his desire for a fresh start elsewhere in order to embark on the next phase of his illustrious career. Respecting Lloris’s wishes, the manager extended the courtesy of allowing him to decide whether he would join the squad on their pre-season tour or remain behind to contemplate his future.

This gesture demonstrates the high regard and appreciation the club holds for Lloris, even in what could be his final moments at Tottenham. Postecoglou further commended Lloris’s performance during training sessions.

Speaking about the player and his future at the club (h/t Football. London), here is what Postecoglou had to say

“I had a really good chat with Hugo. He’s been an outstanding servant for the club for a long time. Captain of the club, and has left an indelible mark on the club. Had a chat and he felt that he’s hoping for a move somewhere else so he can begin next phase of his career. “

“I left it up to him about whether he wanted to come along because I felt he deserved that. I’ve only spoken to him a couple of times but seen how good he is in training. It’s probably not the way he wanted to end his time at Tottenham with all that he’s contributed.”

While it may not be the ideal conclusion to Lloris’s tenure at Tottenham, the club appears open to his departure. Preemptively securing a long-term replacement in the form of Guglielmo Vicario, an Italian goalkeeper, demonstrates the club’s proactive approach.

With Lloris experiencing some uncharacteristic errors in the previous season, the arrival of Vicario presents an opportunity for the North London side to upgrade their goalkeeping position.
