Bryan Gil is on the sidelines for Tottenham Hotspur after surgery for a groin injury
Tottenham Hotspur star Byan Gil has gone under the knife and has undergone surgery for his groin injury, which will keep him out of action for the time being.
The Spain U21 international will miss the start of the 2023/24 term for the North London side. Spurs will be without the youngster for the foreseeable future as his recovery will be monitored.
In a statement via the Evening Standard, Tottenham revealed that Gil had undergone the procedure. The club have given no timeline as to when the 22-year-old will be able to return.
“We can confirm that Bryan Gil has undergone surgery to resolve an issue in his groin. Bryan, who spent the second part of last season on loan at Sevilla, will be closely monitored by our medical team to determine when he can return to training.”
Tottenham signed the Spaniard in the summer of 2020 from Sevilla. The youngster made his way through the Andalusian club and showcased immense potential before making his way to the North London side.
Unfortunately, things have not gone smoothly for Gil at the Lilywhites. Spurs have hardly given the left winger much game time over the years. He has spent two spells out on loan in recent seasons.
In January 2022, the Spaniard joined Valencia on a temporary move and was handed regular minutes. However, the forward was still unable to make a place for himself in Antonio Conte’s plans and left on a temporary move in the previous transfer window as well.
Gil rejoined Sevilla for the second half of last season. The youngster thrived and enjoyed a fruitful spell back at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium side. For the Andalusian club, the Spaniard made 24 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing three assists. He started in the final of the Europa League as the La Liga outfit beat AS Roma.
