Manchester City accept Al Nassr bid for Tottenham target Aymeric Laporte
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have accepted the Al Nassr bid for Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte, a player that Tottenham Hotspur also want to sign.
Ever since the beginning of the summer, Tottenham have wanted to sign Laporte with the player being considered surplus to requirements at Manchester City. Unfortunately, though, they have not reached a breakthrough.
Once touted as one of the best young defenders in the Premier League and arguably Manchester City’s most important defender, things couldn’t have gone more South for the Spaniard.
It is difficult to point out why he fell out of favour under Pep Guardiola but that has been the case for a couple of seasons now. Signing Josko Gvardiol was the last straw in the coffin for the Spaniard.
With there seeming to be no way back into the Manchester City setup, despite the fact that Pep Guardiola plays with three central defenders these days, Laporte would be better off pursuing other opportunities.
Enter Al Nassr, the Saudi club who set the ball rolling with the signing of Cristian Ronaldo in January. Since then, a number of high-profile players have moved there and Laporte could be the next one on the list.
Manchester City have now accepted the Saudi club’s bid for the player. It is now up to the former Frenchman to choose whether he wants to move out of Europe so early in his career. It is not going to be an easy decision.
From a Tottenham perspective, Aymeric Laporte makes a lot of sense for the way we play. He would be arguably our best-suited defender to the Ange Postecoglou system. The Spanish centre-back is excellent with the ball at his feet.
