Ange Postecoglou hails Erik ten Hag ahead of Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has hailed Erik ten Hag ahead of the clash against Manchester United on 19 August.

Spurs will welcome the Red Devils home this weekend in the Premier League. The North London side will hope to get a positive result over the Old Trafford side after losing points in the opening fixture of the 2023/24 term.

Speaking ahead of the match via football.london, Postecoglou expressed his admiration for Ten Hag. The Australian manager admitted to having the Dutch manager on his radar since his Ajax Amsterdam days.

“Yeah, [I rate him] very highly. I’ve followed him from his days at Ajax and previous to that – he built a great team there.

“You can see at Manchester United he’s made an impact at a club where it’s been very difficult to make an impact since Sir Alex retired. It’s not the easiest job in the world, and I’ve got great respect for him.”

Ten Hag was appointed in United’s dugout last summer after five successful years at the Johan Cruyff Arena side. The Dutch manager has managed to turn things around admirably at the Red Devils.

The Old Trafford side struggled under previous managers Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, the former Ajax head coach came and got them their first trophy in six years with the Carabao Cup win.

Ten Hag also led United to the FA Cup final but lost to arch-rivals Manchester City. The Manchester-based club ended up finishing third in the Premier League table.

Similarly, Postecoglou has come in at a difficult period at Tottenham. After catching a lot of people’s attention with his brand of football at Celtic, the gaffer will seemingly look to emulate that at the North London side.

The Australian manager has recently lost Spurs’ talisman in Harry Kane. Therefore, the challenge to have the Lilywhites competing for trophies this season will arguably be an uphill battle.

Both Postecoglou and Ten Hag seem to set up their teams to keep hold of the ball. Therefore, it will be an interesting clash of two ideas that look similar on paper. However, it remains to be seen whether the gaffer will be able to get his first win against the Red Devils.
