Tottenham midfielder James Maddison misses the latest training session ahead of the Bournemouth game this weekend
As per an update in The Athletic (subscription required), James Maddison was not seen in the latest Tottenham Hotspur training session ahead of the game against Bournemouth this weekend.
Maddison left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on crutches on Sunday after playing a big part in Spurs’ 2-0 win over Manchester United.
The 26-year-old had a scan on his foot on Monday but we are yet to know about the extent of his injury. When Ange Postecoglou speaks to the media on Friday, there might be more information on this.
If Maddison indeed misses a few games, it would be such a big blow to Tottenham. Although he is just a new player in the team, his influence in the first two games of the season was massive.
After the departure of Harry Kane, the team needed someone to link up with the likes of Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski. Although Maddison is a different player, he seems to have formed a good relationship with players in the final third.
Moreover, in Postecoglou’s 4-2-3-1 system, there aren’t many better than the Englishman in that number 10 in this squad. If the latter is absent for a few games, we might see the manager changing the system and going to a 4-3-3 with two attacking number eights behind a front three.
Earlier in the day, a YouTube video was released by TNT Sport featuring an interview of Maddison with Laura Woods and Ally McCoist. In that, the 26-year-old was seen stating the reasons why he joined Tottenham and how he saw himself playing for the club.
