Tottenham Hotspur star Richarlison to settle for a spot on the bench during Brazil vs Uruguay
Brazil star Richarlison might have struggled for Tottenham Hotspur since moving to North London but has remained a dependable player for Brazil at the international level.
He has scored 20 goals in 47 matches for the Selecao and has long gotten the nod to start up front ahead of other formidable rivals. However, a barren run of six games without a goal for the South American giants appears to have changed Fernando Diniz’s mind.
The Brazilian manager was seen conversing with the Spurs star ahead of their FIFA World Cup qualifier against Uruguay. It would appear that the 26-year-old is set to drop down to the bench with Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus set to take his spot.
According to Globo, Richarlison has held conversations with Diniz regarding tactics and is now set to settle for a role on the bench against Uruguay on Tuesday night. The Samba stars are two points behind reigning world champions Argentina in the South American standings and three ahead of Uruguay.
It promises to be an intense game between two of the continent’s behemoths as they vie for a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. While Richarlison’s lack of form is a concern, one can see why Diniz is keen to take the Brazilian ace out of the firing line.
It has been a difficult few months for Richarlison as he struggles with an identity crisis at Tottenham. He has struggled to develop into a prolific goalscorer and it has at times taken a toll on his mentality and performance.
While being dropped by his national side is not ideal, it does give him a chance to introspect and get his act together. More so, it will also give him a breather ahead of the return to north London as the Premier League returns this weekend.

For now, maybe taking Richarlison off the pitch could be a wise move. The striker sometimes loses his cool and tends to try too hard, more or less disrupting his run out rather than aiding his cause. Hopefully, Diniz’s decision will light a fire under the Tottenham star.
