Tottenham Hotspur crests over the years.

Sheikh Jassim could rekindle Tottenham Hotspur interest following failed Manchester United pursuit

Sheikh Jassim abandoned his year-long pursuit of purchasing Manchester United earlier this month and it now appears as if Tottenham Hotspur could benefit from the decision.

The Qatari businessman is among the wealthiest people in the world and had grand plans for the Red Devils. However, with him now out of the running for United, there remains the possibility that interest in securing Tottenham could be back on the agenda.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe likely to secure a stake of 25% at Old Trafford, it will have to be a huge twist in the tale for Sheikh Jassim to turn things around. As things stand, if the investment from Ratcliffe is ratified, he will become the club’s largest individual shareholder and remains keen to assume control over sporting decisions.

Sheikh Jassim remains keen to invest in the Premier League and London could be his new destination. With Saudi Arabian-backed Newcastle United and Abu Dabhi-owned Manchester City making waves, and according to The Mirror, Qatar are keen to get into the act themselves.

The Qataris met with Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who in turn met with Daniel Levy regarding potential investment. Tottenham lack the resources to go toe to toe against the richest clubs in the land and a Middle East backer could help level the playing field.

A new era to dawn at Tottenham Hotspur?

While it would be too much to expect QSI to get involved directly, a consortium led by Sheikh Jassim could opt to invest in Tottenham. Not only are we one of the most storied clubs in England but are also located in the capital, giving us a geographical edge.

Ange Postecoglou has brought back the fun on the pitch and has galvanised the players and fans to attain success. We arguably have a better project than Manchester United and can provide potential investors with the tools to build a footballing juggernaut.

It remains clear that Sheikh Jassim wants to build a winning project. Time will tell whether Tottenham will be the team to help him achieve that. We were passed over for Chelsea by Roman Abramovich back in 2003 and it remains to be seen if Levy will choose a similar path 20 years later.
