Feyenoord’s Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez talks about his links with Tottenham
Tottenham’s journey in the post-Harry Kane era has been nothing short of remarkable. The Premier League table-toppers have displayed a brand of football that has captured the hearts of fans, even in the absence of the England captain.
Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window left a void in the squad. The challenge of finding a worthy replacement for a player of Kane’s calibre loomed large. While the current attacking trio has been great, we might need to replace Kane sooner rather than later.
The search for a prolific goal-scorer and a creator like Kaneled Tottenham’s recruitment staff to keep a watchful eye on free-scoring Feyenoord striker, Santiago Gimenez.
Gimenez, at just 22 years of age, has set the Eredivisie alight with his goal-scoring prowess. He’s netted an impressive 15 goals and three assists in only 12 games this season. His exceptional form hasn’t gone unnoticed, with several top European clubs expressing interest in the 22-cap Mexican starlet.
According to Fabrizio Romano via football.london, Tottenham have shown keen interest in Gimenez, with a reported fee of approximately £39m for his signature. However, Gimenez has quashed the idea of an imminent move. The 22-year-old took to social media to clarify his position and here is the translated version of what he posted on Twitter amid his links with Tottenham and Real Madrid (h/t football.london):
“In the last few hours, statements have come out about my future that have emerged from sources far from my environment. Given this situation, I would like to clarify that I do not have a representative and the person in charge of my career is my father with the help of Mariel.
“It is important not to take into account claims that have not been made by them or me.”
Gimenez to the Lilywhites?
Gimenez’s statement emphasises the need to disregard claims that haven’t been made by him or his trusted representatives. While the prospect of him joining Tottenham is intriguing, it appears that any potential transfer may not be on the immediate horizon.
Tottenham’s pursuit of a worthy successor to Harry Kane continues, and Santiago Gimenez certainly remains a name to watch.
