Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa have been in great form in the Premier League this season. Perfectly put, these are two teams with fine starts to the 2023/24 season.
Tottenham have been undergoing a rebuild since the end of last summer with a couple of exits and a change in the dugout. Ange Postecoglou left his job at Celtic to take up the job in North London, and the Whites have enjoyed a remarkable start to the campaign under his tutelage.
Club great Harry Kane left the side for Bayern Munich in search of new challenges, while Harry Winks left for Championship side Leicester City; Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele both moved to Galatasaray. Meanwhile, erstwhile captain Hugo Lloris has been frozen out.
Regarding arrivals, James Maddison left Leicester City for North London, and Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson were the other high-profile names acquired to help replace the long list of departures.
Dejan Kulusevksi made his initial loan move from Juventus permanent in a related development.
The season got underway for Spurs with a 2-2 draw against Brentford. World Cup winner Cristian Romero scored their first goal of the new Premier League season, while Emerson Royal notched the equalizer in the entertaining game where all the goals came in the first half.
Summer recruit Maddison got two assists to begin his Spurs career on a good note. Following that result, the Whites defeated Manchester United 2-0 courtesy of goals from Pape Matar Sarr, who opened his account and an own-goal from Lisandro Martinez. From that moment on, they kept getting better. They ended the month with a 2-0 win, and Ange was named the manager of the month.
Tottenham also went the month of September without a defeat as they continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League season. A hat-trick from Son led Spurs to a 5-2 win over Burnley before an incredible 2-1 comeback win over Sheffield United at home.
Then, an exciting 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the North London derby at the Emirates, and they beat Liverpool and Luton.
Postecoglou’s men remain one of the unbeaten teams in the Premier League, and without continental football this season, they are looking good to compete for a top-four finish.
On the other hand, Aston Villa could have gotten a better start to the season after they spent a lot in bringing new players in. The likes of Moussa Diaby, Pau Torres, and Nicolo Zaniolo arrived from Bayer Leverkusen, Villarreal, and Galatasaray to add to the options of Unai Emery after a season they finished in a spot in Europe.
The season started badly as they were hammered 5-1 at Newcastle. In the first game at Villa Park, the Villains thumped Everton 4-0 before they beat Burnley 3-1 on the road to make it back-to-back wins. Sandwiched those wins was a Europa Conference League first-leg win over Hibernian – five nil.
In the Premier League, Villa lost 3-0 at Liverpool before returning to winning ways against Crystal Palace. After edging Hibernian 8-0 on aggregate to reach the Europa Conference League group stages, Unai Emery’s men lost their group opener 3-2 to Legia.
A return to the Premier League saw them claim a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. That performance was followed by another comprehensive 6-1 bashing of Brighton, a first win in Europe against Zrinjski, and a draw at Wolves.
This will be an exciting match between two enterprising teams in the Premier League. Tottenham have won all three home games as of the time of writing, while Aston Villa have not particularly been bad on the road.
Despite Spurs’ early fine form this season, Aston Villa have won two of their past four Premier League trips to the Tottenham Stadium.
Regarding the head-to-head, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa have played 52 Games since 1995. Tottenham Hotspur won 26 games (Total Goals 83), Aston Villa won 14 (Total Goals 54), and drew 12.

Line-ups
Tottenham have shown great character under Ange, and he seems to have worked on the side to conjure a new midfield and a rebrand of the side.
Sarr and a rejuvenated Bissouma have continued to play in the middle of the park, while skipper Son and Richarlison could start up front as the former hopes to continue his recent excellent form.
Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bissouma, Sarr, Maddison; Kulusevski, Son, Richarlison.
Unai Emery’s team have been explosive this season. Watkins, who started the season relatively slowly, has simply recovered to start getting goals for the Villans. Long-term knee victims Emiliano Buendia and Tyrone Mings are still on the long road to recovery, while there is no timeframe on Jacob Ramsey’s return date.
Meanwhile, Diaby has made an excellent start to life in the West Midlands and could be given another birth here.
Aston Villa: Martinez; Konsa, Carlos, Torres, Digne; Cash, Kamara, Luiz, McGinn; Diaby, Watkins.
Prediction
Ange Postecoglou has made remarkable progress with Spurs since taking over. On a personal note, he claimed the first two Premier League Manager of the Month awards, and teams will pay more attention to him and his side now.
Villa, with their array of talents and a manager of Emery’s calibre, can cause teams many problems in the league. There is so much to look out for in this game, and it should be an exciting contest between the two groups and a spectacle for the neutrals.
