Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United’s hopes of securing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the January transfer window have hit a roadblock. The Eagles, aware of the growing interest in the 23-year-old England centre-back, have firmly stated that a move will only materialise if the fee stands deemed substantial.
Guehi, who emerged from Chelsea’s youth ranks, made the switch to Selhurst Park in 2021 and has since established himself as a key figure in Crystal Palace’s backline. His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with both Spurs and Newcastle expressing a keen interest in securing his services to strengthen their defensive options.
However, the stumbling block for both North London and Northeast clubs comes in the form of Crystal Palace’s unwavering stance on Guehi’s availability in January. The Eagles remain adamant that any potential move will only happen if the transfer fee involved stands deemed significant, indicating their reluctance to part ways with the talented defender mid-season.
That is as per The Sun. Ange Postecoglou is eager to reinforce his defensive lineup, recognizing the importance of shoring up the backline to achieve sustained success in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe is eyeing defensive reinforcements with the hope that Dan Burn’s return from injury will alleviate some of the short-term pressure on the Magpies.
Both clubs, however, stand faced with the challenge of securing the required funds for a January move, as Crystal Palace holds firm on their valuation of Guehi. The financial constraints make it increasingly likely that the pursuit of Guehi will extend into the summer transfer window, creating a competitive landscape for his signature.
The competition for Guehi’s services does not see itself limited to Spurs and Newcastle, as Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City are also monitoring the situation closely. Chelsea, Guehi’s former club, possesses the added advantage of a matching clause, allowing them to match any bid that comes in for the defender.
