Sevilla’s sporting director Vitor Orta says that they wanted to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Alejo Veliz for quite sometime now

According to the official Sevilla FC website, Sevilla FC’s sporting director Victor Orta says that they had been trying for quite sometime to sign the Tottenham Hotspur player Alejo Veliz and that they are finally relieved after he finally signed for them.

Sevilla’s sporting director Orta said:

“Véliz is a striker that we have been trying to get for a while. We were competing against some of the biggest teams in Europe in the summer. When those players then go to one of the big clubs we continue to have them on our radar to see how they progress. In the final week of the transfer window, we learned that Véliz could be an option and that they would be able to recover from his injury within a week and we went for the signing.”

Sevilla’s initial offer for Veliz is believed to be a straightforward loan without an option to buy, providing the young Argentine with more playing time and an opportunity to make an impression in one of Europe’s top leagues.

During Veliz’s unveiling, Sevilla sporting director Victor Orta, who previously worked at Leeds United, mentioned that the Spanish club had attempted to sign the Argentine player in the summer before he joined Tottenham. The prospect of him securing regular playtime at Sevilla should help Tottenham moving forward.

Sevilla FC finally signed Alejo Veliz on a season-long loan.

However, his return from a hamstring injury suffered during the Bournemouth match has delayed his involvement on the pitch. Tottenham boasts a plethora of talented attackers ahead of him, making it improbable for him to receive significant playing time for the remainder of the season. It seems that Sevilla has made him a promise of game time on loan, which certainly seems like a logical move.

Véliz made his debut for Tottenham as a late substitute against Liverpool in September and later scored his first and only goal against Brighton and Hove Albion in December 2023.

Evidently, the striker, who was paraded during his unveiling as the Sevilla player, indicated that he would be ready to integrate with his new teammates by the following day. This may see him among contenders for a place in the matchday squad; the Atletico Madrid home game and other fixtures against Valencia and Real Madrid in February are still on the plate.

Veliz seems to have a bright future ahead at Tottenham. At just 20 years old, he shows great promise. However, at this moment, it is the correct choice to allow him the opportunity to play top flight football elsewhere. Perhaps he can learn a few crafty tactics from his fellow countryman, the cunning Erik Lamela, another player Tottenham will be familiar with..
