Spurs are on the lookout for Ezequiel Fernandez as a strong defensive midfield option
Tottenham Hotspur express their interest in Ezequiel Fernandez, per Boca Noticias. The Lilywhites have plans to bolster their midfield unit in the upcoming transfer window. Ange Postecoglou did try to do it during January, but couldn’t get through.
After signing Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin, the Aussie boss turns to his midfield. Ezequiel Fernandez’s skill and age sit right with the Spurs manager. Postecoglou is keen on youngsters much more than his predecessors.
The former Celtic boss wants young guns in his plans at Tottenham. Fernandez is a strong defensive midfielder who has never left Boca Juniors (except for the short stint at Tigre). The 21-year-old has ascended through the ranks at the Argentine club to establish himself as one of the prominent figures.
Tottenham haven’t made a formal approach for the defensive midfielder yet. On the other hand, there is no solid word about Boca Juniors’ stance on this. The latter had to let go of Valentín Barco in January when Brighton came knocking. The Argentine side will have to think twice before selling another superstar.
The crowded midfield unit at Spurs
Despite all the troubles Ange Postecoglou was put through this season, there’s one department he has no worries about — squad depth. The Australian manager boasts one of the strongest and most versatile teams within the Premier League.
If not for injury woes, the North London outfits would have been one of the consistent teams in England this term. Speaking about squad depth, Postecoglou has enough numbers, particularly in midfield.
The Spurs gaffer has benefitted from the services of Hojbjerg, Skipp, Sarr, Bentancur, Bissouma, Maddison and Lo Celso. James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma have been his priority among the lot.
