James Maddison says recovering together has helped him know Tottenham teammate Micky van de Ven better

Tottenham ace James Maddison talks about instances that led to him being close friends with Micky van de Ven. Micky joined the former Leicester City man in Sky Sports Premier League’s YouTube show. The interview asked Maddison of the duo were ‘pretty good friends’ on the pitch and off it as well. James responded:

“Yeah, Micky is my boy, man. Yeah, we obviously signed in the summer window together and we obviously got injured in the same game so we did rehab together in the gym and the physio room a lot together.”

The duo arrived in north London ahead of the ongoing season under Ange Postecoglou’s discretion. They became an integral part of the Aussie head coach’s tactics and teamsheet. Maddison and van de Ven helped the team maintain the top spot until the fateful game in November.

As jokingly mentioned by James Maddison, the duo ‘bonded’ over their recovery period after being subbed off in the London derby against Chelsea.

The important ‘friendship’

James Maddison was goofing regarding the incidents that led to Micky van de Ven ending up as his close friend. However, the same situation emphasised the importance of their pairing for the club.

The Dutchman and the English midfielder contributed heftily to Tottenham’s unbeaten run for the first 10 games of the season. The duo got injured in their home game against Chelsea. The game ended in a 1-4 loss, leaving the reason evident.

Maddison recovered from the ankle injury and re-joined the team on 1st February against Brentford. Micky’s return was a game earlier, against Manchester United, on 14th January. They have been faring well since then.
