Defensive frailties force Tottenham back into defender market for Jean-Clair Todibo
Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in signing OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo in the upcoming summer transfer window; however, they are not alone in contemplating acquiring the French defender as Les Aiglons plan on a bidding war for their star defender.
Spurs are in dire need of a new central defender going into the off-season, as the club had to play full-backs in the heart of the defence as fillers at some point this season. In retrospect, this is something Ange Postecoglou would want to avoid going into the upcoming campaign. Daniel Levy and other officials at White Hart Lane would want to give the Australian boss squad depth that provides him with the tools to address the defensive frailties exposed this season.
The club did sign Romanian international Radu Dragusin from Genoa in January in a £26.7 million (€31 million) deal with the Italian club after the 22-year-old chose to join the North Londoners over Bayern Munich. Despite signing Dragusin, Tottenham remain determined to strengthen their central defence and are actively competing for the signing of Jean-Clair Todibo.
The Lilywhites are set to compete with Premier League rivals Manchester United alongside Spanish giants Atlético Madrid and Italy-based AC Milan for the 24-year-old’s signature in the summer transfer window, per L’Équipe via. getfootballnewsfrance.
Spurs tried to acquire the France international in the January transfer window; nevertheless, his current employers weren’t ready to negotiate mid-season, and Todibo stayed put at the Allianz Riviera. Tottenham are now looking to see if they can sign OGC Nice defender this summer.
Alongside the La Masia graduate, Spurs are also linked with Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo. It is to be seen which move Ange Postecoglou prefers this summer.
