Tottenham Hotspur have been subject to links with Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher for a summer transfer; however, despite the rumours The Telegraph journalist Matt Law insists that the England international may stay put at Stamford Bridge even if the Blues do not offer him a new contract.
The 24-year-old has been widely regarded as a Spurs priority target, with the North Londoners expressing interest in his signatures since last summer. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano also acknowledged how Lilyhwites boss Ange Postecoglou identified the former Derby midfielder as a priority target as soon as he walked through the door at White Hart Lane. While Daniel Levy & Co. have been strongly linked with making a move for Conor Gallagher following the conclusion of the ongoing season, the England international wants to stay in West London and is not ready to change his intentions. He enters the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, which makes it an ideal opportunity for his suitors to pursue his signatures.
Todd Boehly and the Clearlake Capital-led consortium will have to make a decision on the 24-year-old this summer, especially considering Chelsea’s need to comply with FFP regulations and their need to sell, which weighs towards a probable Conor Gallagher summer sale, per The Times.
However, Matt Law is of the opinion that Conor would rather run down his contract at Stamford Bridge and prove his loyalty to his boyhood club.
Matt Law, speaking on the London is Blue Podcast, said:
“I wouldn’t rule out a scenario of them not agreeing to a contract and Conor staying. And that doesn’t mean Conor necessarily has to run down his contract and leave for free. I mean, it still opens the door to more negotiations at some point.”
With Spurs and Newcastle interested in acquiring his services, complemented by Chelsea’s need to sell, it will be interesting to see if the Blues force Conor’s hand in a possible sale or would be happy to keep him at the Bridge.
