Manchester United legend doesn’t expect Tottenham Hotspur to ‘hand it on a plate’ to Manchester City

Gary Neville says Tottenham will not hand it on a plate to Man City

The rivalry between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal runs deep, so when the question arises whether Spurs will put up a fight against Manchester City, it’s more than just about the match itself. With the Premier League title race heating up and Arsenal in contention, every game takes on added significance.

But let’s get one thing straight – Gary Neville ain’t buying into the idea that Spurs will roll over and hand City the win on a silver platter. As he rightly pointed out on Sky Sports, footballers don’t step onto the pitch with the intention of losing. The notion that Spurs would deliberately let City win to benefit Arsenal is just plain bonkers. Rivalries are rivalries but that does not come at the cost of bloody self-respect.

Honestly, football players don’t go out on a football pitch to lose football matches.”

“But this idea that they’re not going to turn up, they’re going to sort of let Manchester City win the league, it’s absolute nonsense. That’s never happened in this league. This league does have integrity around these games.”

As Neville rightly points out, the integrity of the league is at stake here. The Premier League prides itself on fair competition, and the idea of teams intentionally throwing games goes against everything it stands for. Hell with the league for all Tottenham care. It’s the club’s integrity before all.

Now, that’s not to say City won’t come out on top against Spurs. If they do, it’ll be because of their own brilliance, not because Spurs lacked desire or motivation. After all, City are a top side, and they’ve proven time and time again that they’re a force to be reckoned with.

Also, notwithstanding the fact that Spurs’ Champions League hopes sit on the result of this game. Makes it all the more crucial for the Lilywhites to emerge victorious. Sure, their chances of securing Champions League football might be slim, but that doesn’t mean they’ll approach the match with any less determination.

Every game matters and every point counts, especially when you’re fighting for a spot among Europe’s elite. So, come kickoff, you can bet your house that Spurs will be up for it against City. Win, lose, or draw, they’ll give it everything they’ve got.

And in the end, it’s that fighting spirit that makes football so special. No matter who you support or where you stand at the table, when you step onto that pitch, you’ve got a chance to make a difference. And you can bet Spurs will be looking to do just that against City. What are we going to gain if City or Arsenal win the league? The bottom line is, we sure have our hatred for the Gunners, but that does not outweigh the support for our own club.
