Offbeat target? Tottenham considering Union SG’s Koki Machida

Tottenham Hotspur are looking at an out-of-the-box option for their central defensive depth going into the off-season, as the North Londoners look at the possibility of signing Union SG defender Koki Machida.

The Japanese defender has been linked with a move away from the Belgian club in the upcoming summer transfer window, and per Walfoot, England and the Premier League could possibly be his next destinations this summer.

The North Londoners have a defensive concern going into the summer window. Spurs have been forced to work with fullbacks in the central defensive role at some point in the ongoing campaign, and Daniel Levy would want to assure that the Lilywhites do not face a similar muddle next season. The club did sign Radu Dragusin in the winter transfer window; however, at least one new defensive recruit is expected in the summer.

Tottenham have been keeping tabs on his progress for a while, and it will be interesting to see if they can secure his signature this summer. The Japanese international defender could be a useful squad player for the North London club, and he will help them tighten up at the back. The Japanese international could be a useful squad player at N17 if he does make his way to England with Spurs in the summer.

Can Koki Machida be persuaded? Tottenham eye defender despite Bundesliga preference

Koki Machida reportedly prefers a move to the Bundesliga.

Koki Machida was recently quizzed about the interest of clubs from Italy and Germany, and he acknowledged his preference to move to the Bundesliga, a league where many Japanese players have succeeded off-late. He insists that the football in Italy is too tactical and too defensive for his liking.

Speaking to Belgian outlet Walfoot, he said: “Italian clubs are also interested in me, I know, but to choose, I would prefer the Bundesliga, which is successful for the Japanese. I don’t really know why Serie A doesn’t suit us. Too tactical, too defensive, maybe.”
