Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has spoken about the angry reaction of midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur following his substitution against Manchester City yesterday.
The Australian gaffer was not a happy man following the full-time whistle. With Spurs fans cheering for their own team to lose while the North Londoners missed out on Champions League qualification, it was a tough day at the office for the former Celtic coach.
The Lilywhites suffered a 2-0 defeat against Pep Guardiola’s side at White Hart Lane, which put the nail on any hopes for a possible UCL qualification as Aston Villa sealed their place in the top four.
Following the first goal that Tottenham conceded, Ange went all out by bringing in a more offensive-output player for Rodrigo Bentancur. The Uruguay international came off the pitch with anger in his walk, and that soon replicated him into kicking the bench and the seat before throwing his shin pads to the ground while Bryan Gil tried to calm him down.
While the Tottenham boss was annoyed with the result, he was quizzed about the 26-year-old’s behavior following his substitution, where Ange Postecoglou gave a very blunt verdict, insisting he doesn’t care about those reactions or the reaction of the fans, and that the base of the project matters more to him.
Ange said (via. Football.London): “I didn’t notice. Don’t care.”
Bentancur is a good player; however, the North Londoners would have to upgrade over him as well as Hojbjerg in the upcoming summer transfer window and get players with more of a winners mentality and higher ceilings.
