Tottenham ace backed to quit North London if trophy drought continues

Garth Crooks insists Tottenham risk losing yet another top talent in Micky van de Ven

Tottenham Hotspur have an exception player in their ranks in Micky van de Ven, and former Spurs forward Garth Crooks believes that he may not be at White Hart Lane for too long if he doesn’t see possibilities of winning trophies at N17.

The North Londoners signed the Dutch international from Wolfsburg last summer in a deal worth a reported £43 million, which has turned into one of the signings of the season in the English top-tier. He has been one of the glistening performers wearing the Spurs badge this season and has been integral to the progress that Spurs have made under Ange Postecoglou.

Micky van de Ven’s partnership with Romero has been a stabilizing force in the Lilywhites defense.

Can Tottenham offer Van de Ven more than just project?

Garth Crooks offers Tottenham and trophies verdict to keep top talents.

Watching the former Wolfsburg man once is enough to understand his potential and acknowledge that he can go far in the game. Former player turned pundit Garth Crooks believes that the top players at White Hart Lane will start to get frustrated if they don’t kiss silverware soon.

Speaking to the BBC, Crooks said:

“Apart from the horror show at St James’ Park where Spurs were trounced by Newcastle and Micky van de Ven looked like he had skis on his feet instead of football boots, he’s had a flawless season.

“Van de Ven is to Spurs what Saliba is to Arsenal, and that is irreplaceable at the moment. Quite apart from his pace and composure, he takes his goals like an experienced striker. His finish against Burnley was breathtakingly brilliant.

“The problem both Van de Ven and Saliba have is that they are outstanding young defenders who are not currently winning any trophies, and should that continue, they won’t be at either club for very much longer.”

Micky will soon be looking to establish his repute in the Premier League, and silverware will ensure he announces his potential in world football. While Crooks is right about him and players with his potential growing frustrated if Tottenham wouldn’t win silverware, it is also important to remember that they are in a project at N17 and there needs to be patience before the club can start putting their name in the hat for titles.
