Manchester United superstar has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur tried to sign him before the Red Devils.
Manchester United superstar, Bruno Fernandes has shed light on his failed transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. The Red Devils signed the Portuguese midfielder by paying £46.6m to Sporting CP back in 2020.
Over time Fernandes has become the most important player on Manchester United’s lineup. He is an excellent playmaker and plays with some much-needed energy which is a good initiative to take for the captain.
This season Fernandes has made 47 appearances for Manchester United recording a total of 15 goals and 12 assists. He has been the team’s most consistent player scoring the most goals and recording the most assists.
It’s scary to imagine that Tottenham Hotspur could’ve had a player as good as the Portuguese back in 2020. Pairing Fernandes up with a playmaker like James Maddison already looks like a threat on paper.
The Portuguese skipper revealed while speaking to The Players Tribune that a deal with Tottenham fell apart before Manchester United arrived. Let’s have a look.
“The previous summer, there were some rumours about Premier League clubs being interested in me, but the only thing that was concrete was Tottenham”
“In the end, the clubs couldn’t reach an agreement, and the deal fell apart.”
Fernandes went on to reveal that he cried when he got the call informing him about the Manchester United deal. The Portuguese skipper took no time to decide and immediately agreed to the move.

If the Lilywhites had made a slightly improved offer they could’ve had one of the best playmakers in the Premier League on their roster. Luckily they already have James Maddison so this loss hurts less.
