Versatile defender Mohamed Simakan interests North London club

Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in signing French defender Mohamed Simakan in the upcoming summer, per reliable German outlet Bild.

Originally a centre-back, the RB Leipzig defender has a versatile profile and can play as a right-back as well, the two positions where Spurs are keen to recruit in the upcoming summer transfer window. Marco Rose used his versatility to his advantage on multiple occasions this season, using the 24-year-old in the full-back role.

Strasbourg’s director of training, Francois Keller, has previously compared the Frenchman to his fellow countryman, Raphael Varane, owing to their similar physical qualities.

The North Londoners are not the only club who have expressed interest in the French U20 international, with the likes of Newcastle United and Arsenal also keen on his services. In addition to the Premier League trio, French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also looking to sign the Strasbourg academy graduate. PSG are willing to offer €35m (£29.8m) for his services, which is half of his €70m (£60m) release clause in his current contract with the German giants.

The report by Bild states that Simakan would prefer a move to North London over a switch to St. James Park, with both clubs thought to be holding a firm interest.

There are suggestions that his agents have already started reaching out to clubs looking to sign the 24-year-old this summer. A big move will aid Mohamed Simakan’s bid to break into the French national team setup.

Ange will be willing to sign Mohamed Simakan as he has a highly rated profile and has taken massive strides at Red Bull Arena; however, he is contracted to the German giants till 2027, and it will be difficult to leverage Leipzig to consider selling him on a cheap transfer.
